A background in social media, and a proven understanding of the technical and product aspects of running a website. Experience managing and evaluating staff members.The senior editor will join a team of other editors to assign and edit articles from staff writers, visual journalists and freelancers. The editor’s principal duty will be coordinating the site’s sports coverage, which ranges from breaking news to features to major projects centered on big sporting events. We write about virtually every sport, with a heavy emphasis on statistics and metrics, so the editor should have a broad familiarity with that approach to coverage. The editor will also be called on to help out with breaking news and non-sports stories. FiveThirtyEight.com, a digital initiative of ESPN, focuses on providing data-driven journalism in sports, news, politics, and other areas.
